I love cute colourfull dresses, this lovely polka dot dress would be perfect. Unfortunately we’re not getting along.
The pattern is one from the Great Britisch Sewing Bee Book, the first one. I allready told you about it. It is a really pretty book, but I’m afraid that the sizing table isn’t very accurate, and yup that’s the reason I’m not modeling the dress. It’s way too big! I fals down from my shoulders. Oh well, next time I’ll be making this dress I’ll go down a few sizes, at least two.
I tried a few things to make the dress fit, but all of the options just made me look fat of pregenant. And since I’m neither I don’t want look like that.
Oh well, many sizing tables in both books en sewing patterns are off. Next time I’ll make it at least 2 sizes smaller and check the measurements on the pattern. I’m sure I’ll make this dress again. I really like the style.
This pretty cotton is one form Lieselloves webshop. It is the perfect polka dot fabric I’ve been looking for since forever. Harsh colours don’t suit, but this is perfect for my skintone. The fabric is not as flowy as the book recommended but I tried to fix that issue by cutting it on the biais. It didn’t work out completely but it still looks good.
When I’m looking at this dress on my dress dummy I’m like, damn that is a really nice dress, I’m so sad it doesn’t fit me. Oh well I’ll have to make new one that does fit.
Because of the loose nature of this dress I would recommend wearing it with a skinny belt. These kind of dresses tend to look like potatosacks with belts. And I guess that isn’t the look you’re aiming for.
Did you ever made a dress where the fitting was off? Did you make it agian? I would love to see it!
